Critical thinking talks about actively synthesizing, applying, and evaluating information to arrive at a well-reasoned conclusion or solution.  In the planning and fieldwork stages, thinking critically can help determine the most important focus areas for internal audit.  Critical thinking leads to improved decision-making and can result in better organizational performance.  Effective critical thinking involves collecting and analyzing information, drawing compelling conclusions, and providing recommendations.
During this interactive session, each participant will learn more effective and efficient methods to execute their day-to-day roles and responsibilities as professional internal auditors. The particular case study/workshop will enable the auditors to understand the significance of root cause analysis, fraud risk assessment, including decision making and negotiation skills for any internal audit assignment.  They can take back the learning into their organizations and utilize it accordingly for actual and effective audit results.

Root Cause Analysis: The workshop will guide the young auditors on employing the approaches, tools, and techniques used to uncover the causes of problems.   The root cause analysis will help auditors look deeper to figure out what is causing the problem to recommend the underlying systems and processes that need to be addressed to fix the problem and prevent a recurrence.

Fraud Risk Assessment: The workshop will guide the young auditors on how to imbed the fraud risk assessment in the planning and conduct of every audit engagement.  In this session, the auditors will learn how to enhance audit strategy and approach upon considering the significance of management's identification and understanding of risks to its business, assessing vulnerabilities to internal fraud risks and weaknesses in controls that present a fraud risk to the organization.

Decision Making: Decision-making is a core skill that every auditor will need to use at some stage in their career.  In this session, the auditors will be guided on making informed decisions and prudent judgment in the conduct of audit engagement.

Negotiation Skills: This will help young auditors to develop abilities such as communication, persuasion, planning, strategizing, and cooperating to becoming stronger negotiators.  This will guide the auditors to express themselves in the way of engaging and conveying the results of the engagement.  In this session, the auditors will learn some practical tips and approaches on preparing effectively for negotiation, participating in active listening, and finding specific meanings behind the auditees' words.
