Focus and Features:

The internal audit function provides a diverse array of services to strengthen an organization's ability to create, protect, and sustain the organization's value. Depending on the nature of the business and the activity under review, the competencies needed by each internal auditor varies. The Global Internal Audit Standards require that the chief audit executive must ensure that the internal audit function collectively possesses the competencies required to perform the internal audit services described in the internal audit charter, thus chief audit executives are now looking for individuals from a wide array of backgrounds, skills, and competencies, as auditing no longer becomes confined to the traditional accounting or internal auditing background. However, as the Standards require that internal auditors must possess or obtain the competencies to perform their audit responsibilities successfully, internal auditors who are new to internal auditing are required to complete the necessary training in internal auditing and are encouraged to pursue professional certification/s in internal auditing.
